There has been ongoing discussion in the community that Hong Kong's secondary education system places excessive emphasis on examinations. In an era of rapid artificial intelligence development, the Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) curriculum may fail to cover the cultivation of "soft skills" such as innovation, emotional management, and interpersonal communication among students. Moreover, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years has significantly weakened students' social and emotional development. A local survey revealed that nearly 80% of the student respondents felt their relationships with teachers and classmates had become more distant during the pandemic, and 60% of parents reported that their children's communication skills had declined compared to before.
To address these challenges, the author's research team proposes the comprehensive integration of "entrepreneurship education" into the secondary school curriculum. This aims to enhance students' creative problem-solving abilities and social-emotional learning (SEL). Entrepreneurs and business leaders must possess problem-solving skills, excel in communication and collaboration, and be capable of motivating others. "Entrepreneurial spirit" embodies a proactive attitude and the use of innovative thinking to overcome difficulties—qualities that are currently lacking among students under Hong Kong's existing education system.
